About the Editors

Arthur B. EpsteinEditor-in-Chief Arthur B. Epstein, OD., FAAO is an internationally recognized contact lens specialist and an acknowledged expert on the medical complications of contact lenses and corneal disease. A prolific author, Dr. Epstein has published more than two hundred articles, scientific papers and book chapters. He is Contributing Editor for Review of Optometry and Executive Editor of Review of Cornea and Contact Lenses. He founded, and serves as Chief Medical Editor of Optometric Physician®, the first E-Journal in optometry.

A sought after lecturer, Dr. Epstein, has presented nearly 700 invited lectures on a variety of eyecare topics throughout the world. Dr. Epstein is a Past Chair of the Contact Lens & Cornea Section of the American Optometric Association and led the American Optometric Association's response to the international Fusarium keratitis outbreak. He is a Distinguished Practitioner of the National Academies of Practice, a Fellow of the American and New York Academies of Optometry and a Full Member of the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists.

Associate Editor Richard Clompus, OD, FAAO graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and completed a family practice residency at the University of Alabama School of Optometry.  He established an innovative optometric practice in West Chester, Pennsylvania that provided primary eye care, contact lens specialty services, low vision and binocular vision rehabilitation.

Dr Clompus has lectured extensively both nationally and internationally on primary care topics helping fellow practitioners improve patient care.  He served as Clinical Editor for Review of Optometry and as a consultant for the ophthalmic industry.  He published 45 articles and three book chapters.  After twenty years in private practice, Dr Clompus joined The Spectacle Lens Group of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care as Vice-President of Professional Affairs and launched the DEFINITY™ progressive lens in the U.S.  In 1996, he was appointed Director and President of The Vision Care Institute, LLC in Jacksonville, Florida.  He launched new educational programs bringing 3000 optometric students and doctors to the institute for hands-on training over a three year period, built six Eye Institute satellite centers in optometry schools to support distance learning and supervised the Wharton based Chief Executive Optometrist program at The University of Pennsylvania.  He is a supporter of distance learning and launched educational podcasts to help practitioners learn anywhere and anytime.  He also managed U.S. education grants for Johnson & Johnson Vision Care supporting national, regional and state education events.  During his ten years with Johnson & Johnson, he contributions were recognized with a Standards of Leadership and Global Diversity awards. 

Dr Clompus has developed exceptional expertise in presenting and the use of multimedia technologies making information understandable and memorable.  Dr Clompus remains a consultant for industry and schools.  He is a member of the American Optometric Association, charter member the contact lens section and fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.

Kenneth LebowAssociate Editor Kenneth Lebow, OD., FAAO received his OD degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1973.  He operates a private practice specializing in contact lenses, clinical research and consultation to industry.  A member of the American Optometric Association, Past President of the Virginia Optometric Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Dr. Lebow has lectured extensively throughout the United States and internationally as well as having published many articles on contact lens related topics. Previously, he has served as the Optometric Editor of INFORMED OD an Alcon Laboratories sponsored electronic newsletter, the Contact Lens Editor for Optometry Today as well as authoring a monthly column for Spectrum on corneal topography.  He has performed extensive clinical investigations for all of the major contact lens and solution manufacturers and has served on a variety of industry advisory panels.  A charter member and Past Chair of the AOA Contact Lens Section, he was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Contact Lens Council.  Dr. Lebow received the Rodger Kame Meritorious Service Award from the AOA Cornea and Contact Lens Section in 2004.  Formerly, he held the rank of an Associate Professor of Optometry, Clinical Research Consultant, for the New England College of Optometry, Boston, MA, and Adjunct Professor for the Pennsylvania College of Optometry as well as holding a faculty position at Vistakon's The Vision Care Institute. Currently he maintains a private practice in Virginia Beach, Virginia where he specializes in fitting advanced contact lens designs.

Christine W. SindtAssociate Editor Dr. Christine W. Sindt is a 1994 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry. She completed a disease based residency at the Cleveland VA Medical Center. Dr. Sindt joined the Faculty of the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in 1995, where she is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology and Director of the Contact Lens Service. Dr Sindt is a Fellow in the Academy of Optometry. She is the Vice Chair for the AOA Cornea and Contact Lens Council. Dr. Sindt is Chief Clinical Editor for Review of Optometry and an Associate Editor for Review of Cornea and Contact Lens, where she contributes a monthly column on contact lens solutions. She is a member of the Gas Permeable Lens Institute Advisory panel and is currently working on the Irregular Corneal Teaching Module. Her current clinical interests include pediatric, keratoconus and post surgical contact lens fits. Her current research projects include dry eye aberrations, keratoconus computer fitting, contact lens solution research and confocal microscopy corneal imaging.

William TownsendAssociate Editor William Townsend, OD. trained at the University of Houston College of Optometry. In addition to practicing in multi-location setting with Dr. Janet Townsend and Dr. Kevin Appel, he was a consultant at the VA Medical Center in Amarillo, Texas for eleven years. Dr. Townsend is a past board member and Secretary-Treasurer of the Texas Optometric Association. Since 1993, Dr. Townsend has been contributing editor of Contact Lens Spectrum and recently became a contributor to Contemporary Optometry. He has also authored numerous articles in various journals. Dr. Townsend conducts research developing new contact lens materials, contact lens solutions, medications, and dry eye treatments.

Dr. Townsend has written chapters in several text books and is a frequent contributor to optometric journals. He lectures nationally and internationally on eye disease, contact lenses, and medications. He is Distinguished Visiting Clinician in Residence at the University of Houston College of Optometry and serves as an adjunct professor at that institution. In that capacity, he teaches externs who rotate through his private practice.
